Of Counsel (Retired) Attorney Matthew Straight grew up in the Seattle area and the San Juan Islands. After attending Shawnigan Lake Preparatory School in British Columbia, Matt spent seven years at the University of Washington, obtaining a B.A. in Economics in 1975 and his Juris Doctorate in 1978. Matt graduated Magna Cum Laude and was awarded the Phi Beta Kappa academic honorary.
The focus of Matt's practice for over 35 years has been real estate and business law, with a special emphasis on the acquisition, development, financing and sale of both commercial and residential real estate projects. Matt has guided clients through the acquisition, development and sale of over 900 real estate projects, ranging from single and multifamily residential communities, to commercial and mixed use condominiums. In addition to being Washington legal counsel for a national home builder, his clients include small and large commercial property owners, builders and developers. Matt has assisted clients in numerous sophisticated real estate transactions, including both sales and financings in excess of $90,000,000. In recognition of Matt's expertise in real estate law, he has been a featured speaker at seminars for both attorneys and real estate professionals.
Matt also represents clients on a wide range of business matters, using his experience acquired as a past and present business owner to provide clients with practical, bottom line oriented advice. Matt prides himself on being regarded as a facilitator and “deal maker”, rather than a “deal breaker”.
